Tension as youth go on rampage in Ogheghe, Edo, over killing of a suspected popular yahoo boy.
Tension erupted in the Ogheghe community (in Egor Local Government Area, Edo State) following the killing of a suspected “yahoo boy” (internet fraudster) identified as “Chizi Benz”.
-
The victim was allegedly stabbed to death by a youth of Hausa-ethnic origin following what is described as a sour deal.
-
That killing triggered a violent reprisal: youths from both the Hausa and Benin communities took to the streets armed with weapons, prompting widespread fear, flight of residents, especially those labelled “Aboki” (Hausa traders/riders).
-
Police were deployed to the scene and used tear–gas to disperse the angry youths.
-
Some commercial motorcyclists and petty traders closed their businesses and fled as the unrest spread to surrounding areas such as Uwelu (Siluko axis).
